I crocheted this scarf 12 years ago. It’s made from two balls of Jaeger Natural Fleece. This is also the only photo I took of this scarf and it's not very good, being taken long before the magic of a high res smart phone camera. So it’s a bit blurry and the color isn’t great, but c’est la vie.
I had this scarf in my “gift to someone someday bin”. A year or two after I finished it I gave this scarf to my husband's grandma - the last living grandparent either of us had at the time. She lived in Georgia so I felt a tad silly sending her a warm wooly scarf, but I’m a sharing kind of knitter and thought she would like it - the colors and style seemed just right.
Over the last few years, when she wasn’t feeling well, she wore this scarf often - giving her extra warmth during a time she nearly always felt chilled. She passed away last week, at nearly 96 years old.
This is one of the reasons I knit (or in this case crochet) - to bring love, joy, comfort, & beauty to those around me. I feel honored that from far away something I made could bring her an extra bit of comfort.
Knit or crochet like the wind my friends - and make something awesome for you or a loved one. Awesome doesn’t have to be complicated - simple and heartfelt is pretty awesome too.
