In between pattern writing and sample knitting, I’ve been working on a Selja sweater. It’s a pretty popular knit at my LYS Forever Yarn Doylestown - three ladies have already finished theirs and I know at least two others have it on the needles. Maybe we’ll do a Selja group photo when we’ve all finished. Take a peek at the insta feed to see some lovelies
I wanted a fit with less ease than the pattern calls for, so I knit the second size and made a few mods. This is purely a personal preference; I like my sweaters to fit closer to the body. I’m kind of short and curvy so a loose, bulky pullover makes me feel frumpy instead of fab.
Mod #1 - I added 4 garter ridges (about an inch) to the yoke before dividing for sleeves. When I did a fit test, I was concerned the armscye would be too shallow because of ‘the girls’.
Mod #2 - I cast on 8 stitches under each arm as opposed to 6 as called for in the pattern.
Mod #3 - at garter ridge #21 I began to add one stitch in the middle of each underarm (simple Kfb) to create some waist shaping. I repeated this for the next 3 garter ridges (4 stitches added each side for 8 stitches increase in total) Again, curvy…without the waist shaping the finished sweater would be more snug on my hips than I prefer.
I’m about 3 inches from dropping the orange (Isager Kvartet in Opera) and continuing with just the white (Juniper Moon Farms Zooey in White) for a contrast edge. I will do the same treatment on the sleeves.
Next stop - sleeve island!! Happy knitting.
